Hi, I’m the younger and somewhat less experienced Matthew at *particular, more commonly known as Matt or Dodge both in and out of the office (long story, don’t ask).

I joined *particular in September 2016 as a Paralegal, became a Trainee Solicitor full time in January 2017 and will fully qualify in October 2018. I’m the first employee of team *particular not to have graduated from Northumbria having studied Law and Criminology at the University of Hull before completing my LPC at the University of Law in York. Within the firm I specialise in the commercial law side of things, predominantly in registration terms, terms of business and other general terms of sale. I’ve also spent a lot of time focusing on data protection issues, in particular, the forthcoming GDPR which comes into force in 2018. Such is my level of understanding of these issues, I have delivered presentations and one-to-one GDPR sessions at the Telefonica accelerator program WAYRA based in London. I’m also involved in corporate and employment work when required, but spend the majority of my time focusing on commercial and data protection related issues.

"I love to see the brilliant new products, apps and ideas our clients have generated or are in the process of developing, and being in the position to watch them grow and develop first hand"

When not working on client matters I seem to spend most of my time in the office fixing computers, iPhones and various other pieces of technology. This has led to me gaining the reputation (admittedly well-deserved) as the IT and tech nerd within the firm. This relates to one of the main reasons I enjoy working at *particular. I love to see the brilliant new products, apps and ideas our clients have generated or are in the process of developing, and being in the position to watch them grow and develop first hand. Outside of work I am an avid sports fan, spending a lot of time watching a range of different sports on TV. I’m able to find the time to play football on a regular basis and I am the assistant manager to a Sunday league team as well. Unfortunately, I can’t say I have the same enjoyment for watching football currently, as for some incomprehensible reason I’ve just entered my 20th season as a Sunderland season ticket holder. I have a strong travelling background, having spent over a year in Australia and extended periods in South East Asia as well (not that I like to go on about it). I’ve also recently been involved in organising ‘The Brawl at Hedworth Hall’, an amateur charity boxing evening which was a brilliant experience. *particular’s own Nick participated in the ring on the night and we raised just over £10,000 for local charities. If you want to follow me on Twitter to find out more about the kind of work I get up to and my views on developments in the tech sector then give me a follow @particulardodge
